This park was created to preserve the sandhills produced by the glacial lake Agassiz. This unique wonder of nature is known around Manitoba as the 'Spirit Sands', and includes 25 sq. km (10 sq. mi.) of sand dunes.
Take a self-guided hiking tour through the area, or for a change of scene, ride by covered wagon on an hour and a half tour. Overnight trips by horse-drawn covered wagon are also available for the adventurous type. Reptiles, amphibians, elk, deer, and moose can all be seen if you keep your eyes open for them. Cross-country skiing, picnicking, hiking and camping are all popular activities in the park.
